Buying a diamond. The ‘Four Cs’ mini guide.

Cut

Cut is probably the most important, and most challenging, of the four 'C's to understand. The brilliance of a diamond depends heavily on its cut. Joseph Sterling carries only the better grades of diamond cut,
to ensure that your jewellery is as beautiful as possible. more>

Clarity

Most diamonds contain some inner flaws, or inclusions, that occur during the formation process. The visibility, number and size of the inclusions determine what is called the clarity of a diamond. Diamonds that are clear create more brilliance, and are more highly priced. more>

Colour

Colourless diamonds are the most desirable since they allow the most refraction of light (sparkle). Off white diamonds absorb light, inhibiting brilliance. At Joseph Sterling we've pre-selected our diamonds to eliminate those of lesser colour grades. more>

Carat

A carat is the unit of weight by which a diamond is measured. Because large diamonds are found less commonly than small diamonds, the price of a diamond rises per carat the bigger you go. more>
Conflict Free Diamonds

What is a
Conflict-Free
Diamond?

The only way to certify a diamond as conflict-free is to trace and monitor the diamond from the diamond mine to the consumer. more>
